The Little Dragons aims to introduce children to Kung Fu. The class mixes some basic moves for walking, punching and simple set work with games. The idea is to help your child improve balance, coordination and improve their levels of fitness.
Its is recommended that you bring some indoor shoes, as outdoor shoes are not allowed on the mats, a drink in case you get thirsty and a whole bag of energy!
Typical lesson plan:
Ball Tigg/Dodge Ball
A great fun way to warm up! Helps to improve hand to eye coordination, spatial awareness, team work and learning to move swiftly.
Warm up exercises
Starting by gentle stretching, movement of joints and limbs, working to a more physical level with vigorous exercises, including a few press-ups, sit ups, squats etc.
Balance and concentration
A mixture of techniques to transfer weight across from each leg and involving some Kung Fu based kicks. Horse riding stance, punches and basic set work, taken from typical Lar Gar Kung Fu training.
Walking techniques
Learning to walk and punch or walk and kick. This involves basic combinations of moves and progressively gets more complex as the child’s abilities grow.
One-on-one techniques
The Children learn a variety of ways to deal with situations through the use of locks, blocks, throws and deflections. The class promotes an 'always walk away from conflict' ethic, but by learning how to deal with situations, improves confidence and the ability to work one on one with trust and respect.
Final goodbye
This may be a warm down or a build up, but always leaving the children happy and looking forward to more fun and learning next time!
