About the Club

Harrogate Lau Gar Club has been going since the 1980's. Our Senior Instructor (Stuart Agars) has been training for over 17 years and is a Teacher & Guardian of Lau Gar Kung Fu and runs www.trainingcircle.co.uk and the National Centre for Combat Martial Arts (NCCMA). Our other main Instructors; Nathan Beer 4rd Degree Black sash, Carl Syres and Mike Rowntree 1st Degree Black Sash have both been training in Lau Gar for 13 and 8 and 9 years respectivley and take the weekly classes.

The Club is a member of the British Kung Fu Association - the UK's largest Chinese Martial Arts Association.

If you are considering taking up a Martial Art and Lau Gar Kung Fu appeals then come along and watch! - There are no obligations to join and the first lesson is FREE!

Most people feel a little unsure when visiting a class for the first time. This is only natural; this initial meeting is the hardest thing that you will do! You will soon get into the training. You will discover our friendly and informative atmosphere and relaxed nature. You will be encouraged to participate in the class and this will enable you to ask as many questions as you need, with the Instructor taking time to answer all questions.

Classes for Children (6+) run from 6pm to 7pm Thursdays and the Beginner & Intermediate Class from 7pm to 9pm.

What do I need to wear when I first start?
We recommend some light comfortable clothing such as jogging bottoms and a t-shirt / sweat shirt. Only proper indoor pumps, Martial Arts footwear or bare feet are allowed on the matted floor areas.

Am I too old / young to join a Martial Art School?
We currently welcome new Students from 11 upwards in the main class and 6+ in the Childrens. There is no real age limit to Martial Art training as students are encouraged to work to their own comfortable level of ability. It is our recommendation that you speak to your doctor prior to starting any fitness program if you have any concerns.

We look forward to seeing you soon!
